ShinyHunters Falls for Resecurity Honeypot
Threat actors claiming to be “Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters” (SLH) announced a breach of Resecurity, but the cybersecurity firm confirmed the accessed data was part of a honeypot designed to monitor attackers. Resecurity deployed synthetic datasets, including fake employee and client records, to track the group’s activities, which involved 188,000 automated requests through residential proxies.
Impact: Potential reputational damage to SLH due to failed attack.
Mitigation: Organizations can employ honeypots to detect and study threat actor tactics.
